PreSonus Studio One Pro 7 – a Scarily Game-Changing Release

Be afraid, be very afraid – PreSonus Studio One Pro 7 has just been released. And it’s scarily good. Studio One has always had its fair share of loyal diehard users, and upon this release, a serious growth spurt is inevitable.

One of the most notable aspects of Studio One Pro 7 is its revamped user interface. It’s all rather modern and clean-cut and ultra intuitive. It boasts a standout feature called The Launcher - a non-linear, sequencer-style arrangement page. This addition can operate independently or alongside the conventional timeline arrangement, providing a flexible workspace particularly appealing for electronic music producers who thrive on looping and layering tracks seamlessly.

Additionally, Studio One Pro 7 rolls out a new ‘Loop’ tool, allowing users to easily click and drag on audio blocks to create loops. OK, Apple’s Logic has been using this technique for some time, but you can hardly blame PreSonus for ‘borrowing’ good ideas, especially when they have plenty of their own.

For those working with songs that don't adhere to a strict tempo, the Tempo Detection tool simplifies the process of creating a tempo map, enabling samples to seamlessly align when integrated into arrangements.

Other new features include the AI-powered Stem Separation – a simple right-click that separates an audio track into new tracks comprising of: vocals, base, guitars and drums. It’s not exactly a new idea as it’s been adopted in plug-ins from iZotope, as well as a forthcoming release of Pro Tools. However, the execution is neat and very tidy.

The killer new feature is undoubtedly Splice integration – a first for any DAW manufacturer. As the leading online supplier of samples and loops, Splice and PreSonus have used AI technology to sweeten music creation to a whole new level. One click of an icon and you find yourself auditioning, in real time, samples from the Cloud playing alongside your song in perfect sync. A quick drag-and-drop and it’s in your arrangement. But the capabilities don’t stop there - your arrangement can be quickly uploaded to the world of Splice to generate a list of suggested samples and loops cleverly chosen to fit your song. As for the cost of Splice – you get access to 2500+ high-quality, hand-picked, and royalty-free Splice samples included free, updated monthly.

Scary, formidable and very clever, Studio One Pro 7 is a game-changing release.
