What is RSS?
Really Simple Syndication (also known as Rich Site Summary) essentially provides
you with a fast and hassle free way of keeping up to date with the Mediaspec
website. Instead of having to click from page to page to find out about the
latest news and products, the information comes directly to you.
Furthermore, unlike some other subscriptions, RSS subscriptions are free, you
don't even have to fill out anything.
Not all websites currently provide RSS feeds, but it is growing rapidly in popularity
with the likes of Apple and the BBC providing it, and now, Mediaspec have decided
to provide it too.
Where do I start? Generally, the first thing you need to get your hands on is something
called a news reader.
There are many different types of news readers, some can be accessed using your
browser and some are free downloadable applications.
Subscribing to a feed can be done in different ways. Sometimes it can be done
by dragging the URL of the RSS feed into your news reader or by cutting and
pasting the same URL into a new feed in your news reader.
In addition to stand alone applications, some web browsers, including Firefox,
Opera and Safari, are RSS compatible and can automatically pick up RSS feeds.
