NAMM 2018: Pro Tools 2018.1 AnnouncedJan 26, 2018 - 09:31
So where would Avid go after Pro Tools version 12? Surely not 13. That would be tempting fate. Instead, they have opted for a major change to their release names. Software releases will be numbered according to the year and month. For example, the first software release in January of 2018, announced at this year's NAMM, is numbered 2018.1.
Of course, 2018.1 is not just about a name change. One of its highlights is the option to retire that old and trusty ilok, and activate Pro Tools and its associated plugins with ilok Cloud, as long as internet access is avalible. Educators will no doubt rejoice at this news, as iloks have always posed a security nightmare. Of course, 3rd party plug-ins that are licensed via the ilok may necessitate its continued use.
Pro Tools 2018.1 is free to users on a current Pro Tools Support Plan. Not on a Plan? Then contact Mediaspec on 01355 27500 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for a promotional discount.

Take Deeper Control of Your MIDI
Making music has never been easier. With numerous MIDI improvements and enhancements, you can fix and finesse every note to perfection—from transposing and trimming notes with the arrow keys, to building chords and scores faster than ever before.

In addition, pre-fader sends and Automation lane view menu entries are now color-coded, making them easier to distinguish.
Start Collaborating More Easily
Got a session that you’re dying to work on with others? Select File > Start Collaboration, and Pro Tools will automatically save your current session, close it, and reopen it as a project in the cloud, with all tracks converted and ready to be shared.
