Modeled on a rare vintage Fairchild 670 from the personal collection of Grammy® award-winning producer/engineer Jack Joseph Puig, the PuigChild hardware compressor faithfully recreates the unmistakable sound of the original. Featuring dual mono, linked, and lateral vertical stereo modes, 16/24-bit digital I/O, and outstanding AD/DA converters, housed in a rugged 2U rack unit, the PuigChild is a world-class compressor — in the studio or on the road.

Among audio professionals, the Fairchild 670 is the most coveted of all compressors, not only because of its unique color and character, but also its rarity and price: With fewer than 100 units ever made, original Fairchilds routinely go for tens of thousands of dollars on the vintage market. With 20 vacuum tubes and 4 hand-wired transformers in a hefty 6 rack-space chassis, these hard-to-find units weigh in at a robust 65 lbs. Both the stereo 670 and its mono counterpart the Fairchild 660 use single push-pull amplification stages with extremely high control voltages. Both variable-mu limiters are unique in that they use tubes for gain reduction as well as amplification. Compression takes place directly in the audio path, rather than being routed to a separate circuit.

When Waves set out to model the Fairchild, we turned to producer/engineer Jack Joseph Puig, renowned among gear aficionados for his extensive collection of hand-picked, meticulously-maintained outboard equipment. Granting us exclusive access to his finest unit, Jack worked closely with Waves, making sure we captured every nuance of its distinctive harmonic complexity.

Manufactured with the same impeccable standards and attention to detail as our acclaimed MaxxBCL, the PuigChild is a remarkable engineering achievement that truly represents the best of the best.

Features:

Legendary Fairchild sound in a road-ready hardware unit

Dual mono, linked, and lateral vertical stereo modes

State-of-the-art 24-bit converters

Analog and digital connectors for all popular formats

125 dB dynamic range

Switchable sampling rates up to 96kHz

Professional Audio/MIDI Interface with USB 2.0 Hub.

The EIE Pro is a tabletop USB 2.0 audio interface perfectly tailored for your project and portable studio setups. This four-in, four-out (4×4) device features low latency ASIO drivers and enables you to record up to 24-bit resolution and sample rates of 44.1 kHz/48 kHz/88.2 kHz/96 kHz into virtually any DAW, recording or performance software on Mac and PC-based systems. The EIE Pro also houses three convenient USB inputs, in addition to its main USB 2.0 port, enabling you to connect controllers, hard drives or any other peripheral when native ports on a computer may be limited. The compact recording interface contains high-quality components including nickel-plated input jacks, analog-style VU meters and a rugged aluminum casing for a powerful, professional, portable audio solution.

Both pairs of outputs can be monitored visually with the high-quality, analog VU meters providing classic features with modern style. For remote tracking and alternative playback, the EIE Pro has a 1/4” TRS headphone output. High quality analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters ensure that every detail of your session or performance gets captured and played back faithfully.

The three additional USB ports allow the EIE Pro to function as a hub as well, bridging other MIDI controllers and hard-drives to the computer. The EIE Pro features traditional MIDI In and Out jacks for playing and controlling software with keyboard and pad controllers, workstations, and other MIDI-compatible instruments.

The Focusrite Liquid Channel enables you to apply the characteristics of the most iconic and sought-after mic preamps and compressors in the history of music recording. It’s been winning awards since we released it in 2003, and for the past two years running, it was voted ‘Best Microphone Preamplifier’ by readers of Sound On Sound magazine. But we’re aware that some people still aren’t aware of the power and potential of Liquid Channel, so we decided to put it through the ultimate test: a shootout and blind test; and film the process.

Class-Leading 24-bit/192 kHz Sound Quality
Designed to play a central role in a modern Mac- or PC-based studio, Apollo incorporates a true “no compromise” approach to audio quality. Building upon decades of UA’s analog hardware heritage, it offers extremely high-resolution sonics, with the lowest THD and highest dynamic range in its class. Apollo’s premium mic preamps, top-end converters — and UA’s meticulous attention to circuit design — translate into greater accuracy and depth in your recordings, from tracking and overdubbing, to mixing and mastering.

Realtime UAD Plug-In Processing for Tracking, Mixingand Mastering
While Apollo’s “natural” sound is exceedingly open and transparent, it can quickly deliver a wide range of classic analog tones and color via its Realtime UAD Processing. Available with either DUO Core or QUAD Core processing onboard, this onboard DSP Acceleration allows for recording and mixing through UAD Powered Plug-Ins — with as low as sub-2ms latency — so that producers can quickly monitor, audition, and “print” audio using classic analog emulations from Ampex, Lexicon, Manley, Neve, Roland, SSL, Studer, and more.**

Want to place multiple 1176 compressors on your drum inputs, or record vocals through a classic Neve 1073 EQ, or even track the entire band through a Studer A800 tape machine in real time? No problem. With Realtime UAD processing, Apollo’s sonic options are virtually endless.

Thunderbolt™ I/O: The Next Generation of Connectivity
Apollo offers compatibility with Intel’s new Thunderbolt technology, as found on the newest iMacs, MacBook Pros, MacBook Airs, and next-generation PCs.
Available via a user-installable dual-port Thunderbolt I/O Option Card (sold separately), Thunderbolt provides lower latency, reduced audio buffer size, improved performance, and greater UAD plug-in instances versus FireWire. And because Thunderbolt offers many times the bandwith of FireWire, it allows music producers to connect numerous devices in series with the Apollo interface — including hard drives, processors, and additional computer monitors — all with fast, flawless performance.

Deeper Integration with Pro Tools, Logic, Cubase and more
Apollo’s Core Audio and ASIO* drivers ensure compatibility with all major DAWs, including Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Cubase, Live, and more. Beyond this basic compatibility, Apollo’s included Console application and companion Console Recall plug-in (VST/AU/RTAS) provide control and recall of all interface and UAD plug-in settings within individual DAW sessions, even months and years later. Read more about Apollo’s included software here.

Elegant Hardware Design and Workflow
One key feature of Apollo isn’t really a “feature” at all. It’s the numerous design details that give you a fast, natural workflow — and better results. There are physical front-panel controls for all the most commonly used features, including Preamp and Monitor level knobs, channel selection, mic pad and low cut, phantom power, and even dual headphone outs with independent level control. Smart Hi-Z inputs on the front panel detect when you’ve connected your guitar or bass, and automatically enable hardware and software monitoring.

Sonically, Apollo’s Mic inputs and Monitor outputs are digitally controlled analog, so you don’t lose audio resolution when you adjust gain. High-resolution/high-contrast metering, derived from UA’s legendary 2192 interface, is designed to be viewable at nearly any angle. Finally, standalone operation means that you can use Apollo’s audio connections, and last-used DSP mixer settings, even without a computer connected.

With the Olympus LS-3 you can have it all: Superb sound quality, smooth operation and a durable, take-me-anywhere design concept that fits in literally every pocket. Despite its minimal weight – just 90g with batteries – and its incredibly small size, you’ll find many examples of advanced sound engineering: Awesome superior-to-CD quality sound due to the 24bit/96kHz PCM format, two directional microphones with 90° orientation for most natural stereo recording, plus an omni-directional centre microphone capable of capturing lower bass ranges with stunning clarity. If it’s a bit hectic you will love the pre-recording option, which enables you to start recording up to 2 seconds before you press the recording button. The built-in 4GB memory enables, for instance, 65 hours of recording time in popular mp3 format (128 kbps). If that’s still not enough you can extend the recording capacity using the microSD(HC) card slot. Furthermore, the LS-3 comes with rechargeable Ni-MH batteries and an internal USB charging function ideal for people on the move. Whether you’re a musician looking to record practice sessions, shows or song ideas, a nature enthusiast with a passion for capturing bird songs, a journalist, choir or theatre director, or simply anyone who demands exceptionally clear, crisp sound, the pocket-sized LS-3 is must-have gear.
