KRK 12s Overview

The KRK12s powered subwoofer is the perfect complement to KRK VXT series, KRK Rokit series, or any other 6″-10″ studio monitor. The KRK12s is designed to extend the response of an existing monitor system so that the low-frequency portion of the mix can be engineered. The KRK12s features the powerful accurate and low distortion sound that is the hallmark of all KRK monitor systems.

An efficient and low distortion 225-watt amplifier makes the KRK12s perfect for project and professional studio applications that require increased signal pressure. The front-firing bass port and KRK’s light weight and high strength Kevlar woofer ensure a dynamic low-end punch. The KRK 12s has extensive bass management utilizing a full phase adjust and reverse, LFE input capability, Internal and defeatable Limiter, and both balanced and unbalanced inputs. In addition the subwoofer has an internal crossover which can be switched in and out of the path when muting the sub which allows full range material to be compared with and without subsonic content. A sturdy grill protects the driver cone and adds to the sleek appearance of the unit.

While subsonic frequencies are heavily implemented in some musical genres, all studios benefit from the use of a sub to monitor this low frequency content. With the prevalent use of home theater systems, as well as commercial systems in clubs and cinemas – production studios require the capability to identify and correct problems such as unwanted low frequency components, exterior noise, microphone rumble and vibrations. The increase of home and project mastering means many potentially great pieces of music are being poorly represented when played back on a larger system. When dealing with subsonic frequencies if they cannot be heard accurately they cannot be mixed accurately.

For decades, KRK subwoofers have been the choice for high definition low frequency monitoring including some of the most prestigious studios across the world. Now, the KRK12s provides a larger low frequency driver for enhanced performance that is within the budget of even the most modest home, or project studio. Whether you are mixing in any surround environment (up to 10.2) or just looking to upgrade the low frequency extension of your existing stereo monitors, the KRK12s is designed to meet the task.

KRK 12s Features

Curved Baffle Curved front plate design virtually eliminates diffraction distortion

Front-firing Port provides low frequency extension while reducing boundary coupling and the unique shape is optimized to avoid port turbulence

Bypass Footswitch Control allows you to defeat the sub and provide full range audio to your recording monitors for use with a standard latching inch mono footswitch

Kevlar 12″ Driver -High Excursion woven Kevlar driver cone

Thermal and Overload / Clip Protection to prevent damage

Volume Control on rear of unit allows a high resolution gain range from -30 dB to +6 dB.

Metal Grill is standard to protect the driver from damage

With a female XLR plug at one end and a USB connector with a tiny 16-bit, 44.1/48kHz audio interface packed into it at the other, the XConnect works with any XLR-equipped dynamic (ie, non-phantom powered) mic.

At 3m, the shielded, unbalanced cable should offer enough reach for most studio purposes.

Being class-compliant, the XConnect doesn’t require any drivers – it needs only to be plugged into a Mac or Windows machine to appear as an input in any recording software thereon.

Indeed, the only real negative is that it’s only 16-bit.

Issues Resolved in Pro Tools 10.1.2

32 bit AIFF files now play back without distortion.

When the Record button in the Pro Tools Transport is enabled with Satellites linked, serial (9-pin) rewind commands are no longer ignored by Satellites when the Admin system is playing back.

The Write to Current automation command no longer creates an extra breakpoint at the end of a selection. (PTSW-160630) Dyn III Plug-In parameters now map correctly after conversion from DPM format to AAX format.

Toggling a Send from Pre-Fader to Post-Fader to no longer disables audio throughput on a track. (PTSW-157131) Performance of Transport and Locate commands for Satellite systems has been improved.

Update available from AVID’s website.

The ISA (Input Signal Amplifier) microphone preamplifier — featuring the Lundahl LL1538 input transformer and bespoke Zobel network filter — has remained essentially unchanged and at the heart of every ISA Series product and of course the famous Focusrite Forté and Studio consoles since the 1980’s. It has contributed to the signature sound of many hit records across the past four decades. Now ISA Two becomes the latest instalment in this famous legacy.

Each channel has switchable balanced insert points, variable high-pass filter and variable input impedance, which allows you to get the very best results from any microphone.

ADAM Audio, a leader in the field of professional monitoring, has launched the new A77X.

The A77X features the company’s highly acclaimed X-ART tweeter, new woofers and amplifiers, in completely re-designed speaker cabinets.
A valuable addition ADAM’s award-winning AX-Series, which ranges from the ultra-compact professional A3X, to the high performance A8X systems.
In addition, the woofers and amplifiers have also been re-engineered from scratch, with larger voice-coils and more powerful amplifiers for greater linear excursion and more output. A 5-year warranty is provided for all models.

In some set-ups it can be advisable to use a horizontally designed speaker rather than a vertical one. Until now, such monitors were only available within the SX top end monitors.
The brand new A77X is equipped with the same advanced technologies as the highly acclaimed A7X. It therefore is very similar to the two-way speaker. The A77X, however, distinguishes itself by much higher, compression-free maximum sound pressure levels and dynamics. Due to its power and radiation characteristics, it is perfectly suited for both near- and midfield monitoring.

Like all models of the AX, the A77X features the ADAM proprietary X-ART tweeter. The ‘X’ stands for ‘eXtended frequency response’ and thus for one of the features of the Accelerating Ribbon Technology that has been drastically improved: the frequency response. It now extends all the way up to 50kHz. In addition, the X-ART tweeter has higher efficiency and higher maximum sound pressure levels.
The two 7” woofers feature large voice coils (1.5”) and powerful amplifiers. As a result, they are capable of both very high maximum sound pressure levels as well as very deep registers. The woofers cover the different frequency bands: one of them is responsible for the (sub-) bass frequencies up to about 400Hz, the other takes over most of the midrange. The response is remarkable for such a small enclosure going from 38Hz -50kHz.

Order here from Mediaspec for only £765
