It is with great sadness that Benburb Football Club learned about the passing of long time committee man Andy Irvine last Friday. After a spell at local rivals St.Anthony's, Andy joined the Benburb committee in the sixties and was a popular figure around not only Tinto Park, but Junior Football as a whole. Our thoughts are with Andy's family at this sad time.
The funeral arrangements are as follows:
Funeral Mass on Wednesday 27 June at 10.00am at St.Constantine's R.C. Church, Govan, thereafter to St.Conval's Cemetery, Barrhead. |

The annual Benburb FC awards presentations took place on Saturday night at the South Western Club in Craigton. A great night was had by all as the players, management and committee celebrated promotion to the Central District First Division as well as the important part of the night, the presentations of the various awards. The results of the awards are listed below. |
| BENBURB FC PLAYERS' PLAYER OF THE YEAR - BILLY FERGUSON |
 |
Billy Ferguson (left) proudly received the Players' Player of the Year award from Paul Lovering at the annual end of season night on Saturday. The 39 year old striker scored 18 goals in 28 appearances and his efforts were very much appreciated by everyone at Tinto Park. |
| BENBURB FC COMMITTEE PLAYER OF THE YEAR - COLIN McINNES |
 |
Colin McInnes (left) received the Benburb FC Committee Player of the Year from club Honorary President Tommy Douglas on Saturday night. Colin was only one of two players who were ever present during the past season, the other being Joe Ghattas.
Colin, aged 22, signed from Rob Roy Under 21's at the start of the season and played 31 games and scored 2 goals. |
| MEDIASPEC PLAYER OF THE YEAR - STUART ROBERTSON |
 |
Stuart Robertson (left) was the proud winner of the Mediaspec Player of the Year. 'Pie' received his award from Mediaspec Managing Director and Benburb Committee member Eric Joseph at the Benburb Player of the Year bash on Saturday night.
The right-back made 18 appearances and scored one goal in his first season at Tinto Park. |
| BENBURB FC TOP GOALSCORER 2006-07 - TONY O'NEILL (20 GOALS) |
 |
For third consecutive season, Tony O'Neill (left) has ended up top goalscorer at Tinto Park. Trailing Billy Ferguson by six goals going into the last two games, Tony was not willing to give up his top scorer crown without a fight and as a result he scored 5 against Stonehouse Violet and 3 against Royal Albert to give him a total of 20 goals for season 2006-07. In his three seasons at Benburb, Tony has scored 52 goals in 95 appearances. |
 |
Benburb claimed the third promotion spot tonight as a result of their challengers for the spot Greenock drawing 3-3 at Newmains. Frank Lovering and Dennis Donnelly both attended tonight's match and it can be safely said that they experienced a nervous last few minutes as Greenock fought back from 3-1 to draw 3-3. Greenock hitting the woodwork twice in the dying minutes did nothing to help the blood pressure of the gaffers. Congratulations to Frank, Dennis and the players who have put in a tremendous effort to get the club back in the Central District First Division. |
| RESULT: ROYAL ALBERT ATHLETIC 0 BENBURB 4 |
 |
Benburb defeated Royal Albert 4-0 tonight at the Robert Smillie Memorial Park to go within touching distance of promotion to the Central District League First Division. Once again Tony O'Neill was the goalscoring hero with a hat-trick to add to the five he scored on Saturday against Stonehouse Violet. All eyes will be on Ravenscraig Stadium this Saturday as Greenock face Shettleston in a game that could decide whether Benburb go up or not.
